For some reason, it won't let me insert MP3 files anymore! It always used to,
but now it will only insert wav files. I tried re-installing office, but that
didn't change anything. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!

How are you trying to insert them? Are you using Insert > Movies and Sounds >
Sound from File? Or are you trying to attach a sound to an animation or a
transition? In the latter case only WAVs can be used.

I am using Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from File. But it is a valid
MP3 file because it plays in Windows Media Player and Winamp.

Go to Start > Run and type mplay32.exe and click on OK. Open one of the MP3s
and try to play it. Does it play? PowerPoint doesn't use WMP or Winamp.

No, It said, "Cannot determine the device type from the given filename
extention."

What is the source of the MP3? Did you create it or rip it from a CD, or did
you get it someplace else? PowerPoint uses Windows mplay32, so if it won't open
it, PowerPoint won't be able to. These aren't from iTunes are they?

No, they were mostly ripped from CDs or downloaded from websites. They played
fine for the last few years, then all of a sudden in the last few
weeks...they won't play now.
