Inserting MS Word 2007 file in MS Word 2007 document looses graphi

First there is no longer an apparent command to insert a file. Using 2003
keyboard commands is still supported. However, the result is that graphic
text boxes in the inserted file are no longer the correct size and text is
overflowing behind the frame. Further, .jpg files are blank boxes with an
enclosed X instead.
Copying and pasting the contents of the files is slightly better as the .jpg
files show up.

You insert a file using Insert | Text | Object | Text from File. Not very
intuitive, but it's the 2007 equivalent of Insert | File.

This Word 2007 has no Insert | Text | option. What is missing?

Plus, can the loss of graphic and formatting be addressed or is that simply
a matter of finding the commands listed below?

S

sparks

There is a | Insert | Object | Create from File | command which results in a
pixelated image (with graphics and text boxes correctly located and enclosed)
of ONLY the FIRST PAGE of the inserted document. Which then can be converted
into a !! Microsoft Office Word Document!! It even says " Permanently changes
the selected Microsoft Office Word Document into the object type Microsoft
Office Word Document".

[Perhaps we have some unfinished business here. - Editor's comment]

When that command is activated, nothing changes. Similar response to the
Activate As: command. No changes.

What's unfinished is the description of exactly what and where you
need to click to get what you want. So far you've clicked all the
wrong things.

On the Insert ribbon, click the down arrow next to the Object label,
not the Object button itself. A small menu drops down. Click the "Text
from File" item on that menu. That opens an Insert File dialog where
you can choose which document to insert. The result is exactly the
same as the Insert > File command in Word 2003.

I agree that the placement of this command isn't intuitive, but it is
there. I should also point out that if you press F1 for help and
request "insert file", the first offered topic is "Where is the Insert
File command?", and that has explicit instructions and a picture.

The Object command is in the Text group on the Insert tab. Microsoft's
convention for describing this is Insert | Text | Object | Text from File.

Insert tab - Object dropdown arrow - Text from File.

Not exactly intuitive or obvious, but it's there. If you need it a lot,
then right-click Text from file and choose Add to Quick Access Toolbar.

The really daft bit about that change is that it doesn't insert 'Text from
File', it insert the WHOLE file, warts and all. The first time I saw that
change, I thought it was a new (useful) command for inserting just what it
says, TEXT. I had hoped that it was going to strip all text and insert it
without any formatting (a bit like the Recover Text from any File option) -
but I was disappointed!

After reviewing the suggestions, and trying other ways to insert the files,
the following solutin was found:

Highlight several file names to be inserted in Windows Explorer
Copy to clipboard
In MS Word 2007
select paste special
two choices appear with 'Files' highlighted
Press enter
now wait while excel opens and the files are inserted one at a time
Done!

Regarding the 'Help' command. This version of Word 2007 must be different.

While there is the text and that you relate, following the directions
results in an 'Object' window with two tabs: |Create New| and |Create from
File| not the promised "Insert File dialog box" 'In the Insert File dialog
box, locate the file that you want, and then double-click it.'

However, the Create from File tab does the job anyway!

Thanks for the tip.

To get the Insert File dialog box, don't click the Object button; instead,
click the *arrow* on the Object button; then you get to choose Text from
File.

Note that the Text from File command creates an INCLUDETEXT field which is
different from creating an OLE object.

I am using MS Word 2007 with XP. The first file is 293 pages long (12, 528
KB) saved as a .docm. The second file is 273 pages long (6, 658 KB) saved as
a .docm. When I add them, they come out to roughly 19MB which is below the
guesstimated MAX OF 32MB for MS Word.

I open the first file and add the second file to it by inserting, object and
text from file. The two files come together nicely, I update my TOC, figures
and, tables fields.

I select "Save As" which in turn creates the problem. The PROBLEM is the
error message that prevents me from saving these two files as one. MICROSOFT
OFFICE WORD box states "A file error has occured (file name)"

My customer requires that I deliver a "combined" MS Word file along with a
..pdf with interactive (linked) TOC, list of figures and tables.

IF I absolutely can not combine these files, how do I update the fields in
the TOC with the information from the second file?
