Inserting other email msgs (as an item) into emails

I have inserted old email messages into messages (almost like an attachment)
as a reference using outlook 2000. I believe this was done by clicking
insert, then item, which would then take me to email folders. i do not have
an 'item' to click on in 'insert' field. i know this can be done, but
haven't been successful in figuring it out. i am currently using outlook
2003. many thanks.

The Insert, Item command is not available when you're using WordMail, that
is, Word as your email editor. It is available in the built-in Outlook
editor. So, you have two choices. You can turn off WordMail before you
create your message by choosing Tools, Options, Mail Format and clearing the
box for "Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit e-mail messages."
Alternatively, you can keep WordMail and attach Outlook messages and other
items from the Outlook folders into the open message.
