Inserting text into Autoshapes

I consider myself to be a proficient user of Word (XP) and autoshapes - but something has me stumped. I am putting together a floor plan using autoshapes and have been able to add text successfully to about half of the shapes. Suddenly, or so it seems, I am no longer able to add text to the shapes in the manner I like. For instance, in an autoshape of sufficient size, I am trying to add text, but it is only showing the bottom the the text - I have to significantly increase the size of the shape in order to allow the rest of the text to be shown. This occurs even after decreasing the text size to 8. I've done everything I can think of, but to no avail.

It will help (some) to reduce the text box interior margins.

How do you do that? Again, this is an autoshape, not truly a text box. I tried overlaying a text box inside the autoshape (which worked), but I still didn't get anywhere. Thanks for your input.

Right-click on the edge of the AutoShape and choose Format AutoShape. There
will be a Text Box tab in the Format AutoShape dialog. Reduce the internal
margins to 0".
