inserting video into Power Point 97

I am working with the old, but still effective, Power Point 97. Can in
insert video I took and downloaded off my digital camera? What file type
must it be?

Probably. PPT can be really finicky about video, though.

You'll probably want to stick with AVI or MPEG. You may find that you get an
error message when you insert the movie from your digital camera. If it's
something akin to this -- Video not available, cannot find vids:mjpeg
decompressor -- try renaming the video file from AVI to MPG.
