This question was posted some time ago:
Can anyone tell me how to insert a video clip into a Power Point slide show
And the answer was the following:

There's a quick, free, fairly easy way to download YouTube and other videos.

First Install a free download tool. The download will be in WMV (which
is what you want) not FLV (you don't want FLV). Here's how install the
Media Converter download tool:
1. Use the FIREFOX web browser.
2. From the Tools menu choose Add-Ons
3. Click on the Get Add-ons tab
4. In the Search box type Media Converter
5. Click Install Now
6. Accept all the dialogs asking you if it's OK
7. Restart FireFox

You'll then have a new icon that looks sorta like a bird next to the web
address.

From now on just go to a YouTube video in YouTube then, click the bird
icon.
1. In step 1 of Miedia Converter, set the file type to WMV and then
give the file a name
2. Click the Next button to get to step 4 (don't change any settings -
just take the defaults)
3. Click the big Download icon in step 4. (Remember to note where you
are saving the WMV file).

The YouTube movie will be downloaded as a high quality WMV file.

In PowerPoint., click on the Insert Menu and then choose the Movies >
From File option to get the movie into PowerPoint.

My question is: can this be done with SAFARI (which the browser I use) ? Or it will only work with FireFox?

Thanks.

Hi again,

I answered a bit too quickly. In addition to using Firefox you can use
any browser and go directly to the media converter web site
http://www.mediconverter.org/

You can use their web site to covert items from one format to another.

Hi Jim,

Back to my previous question: you say .WMV is what I want in order to insert a You Tube video clip into a PP. Somehwre else, I read that it's .AVI that I need. It did not exclude wmv, but that is the format they mention.

Can you tell me anything about that, please?

Also, whether I have done it with wmv or with avi (I have tried both) once I insert a clip on to a new slide, I often end up iwth a little icon that looks like a piece of a movie frame. Maybe I should mention that once I have converted something and then insert it, the insertion is done with Flip4Mac wmv. Is this what sould happen?

Thanks again
