Insertion/select cursor ALMOST invisible in document areas

Hello. Running Office 2003 SBE on XPSP2 on a Dell Optiplex 745 Conroe
dualie.

When the cursor is over the document area, in Word, for example, the
cursor all-but-vanishes. The user CANNOT see it but the ghostly image
is visible in a darkened room.

I have updated the video drivers as per the Dell web site
recommendations for an ATI X1300 PCI-E display adapter add-in card. I
have also reset the mouse controls, desktop settings, and all effects to
default.

I have Googled but no good remedies have been discovered.

Any suggestions?

Try a different cursor/pointer set, say "Conductor", and try toggling
"shadowing". (Control panel, Mouse, pointers)
