install advice

Hi all, i have a contruction client who is interested in deploying the
Project 2007 professional edition for his house and development business.
They already have a windows 2003 R2 server (DC) and 10 or so winxp
workstations. My question is would it be better to install a member server
with win2003 R2 to run the project 2007 standard and the project server to
keep all of it separate from their domain controller?
Is that all that is needed to run project 2007 professional and server
parts?

thx

jeff,

Although you could install Project Server 2007 on the DC technically, I
would not recommend you to do so. Rather set up an additional server as you
already mentioned and install PS2007 on this box.

On the new server you will start with the installation of SQL Server (2000
or 2005), followed by the installation of PS2007 (including WSSv3). Stick to
the following installation document, it will help you through all the steps.
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Offic...f1bd-40fe-a1e9-25d31e93a2db1033.mspx?mfr=true
(Deploying Project Server 2007 in a server farm environment) Finally, deploy
Project Professional 2007 to all clients.

Hope this helps...

Hi Jeff
10 users? Will all of those users use Project Professional? If so, then
you will need 10 * Project Pro 2007. If some of the users can use Project
Web Access instead, then you can replace some of the Project Pro requirement
with PWA, and therefore buy Project Server CALs instead. (Project Pro comes
with a PS CAL).

In addition to the above, you'll need...

1* Project Server 2007 licence.
1 * SQL Server 2005 licence.
10* SQL Server 2005 CALS.

WSS is licenced as part of Windows and as such is a free download.

Sorry Ben, one last question?
Would you make this 2nd server a member server of the domain or would it be
ok to make it another domain controller in their network since they only
have one now and run all these Project apps on it?

Hi Jeff,
Personally I would leave it as a member server, however, there is no
technical reason why it couldn't be a DC.
