Office XP will run on Vista. If your copy of Office XP came
preinstalled on your old laptop by the computer manufacturer, then the
software cannot be transferred to your new laptop. If you have a retail
copy of Office XP, then you can install it on your new laptop if you
stop using it on your old laptop.
Thank you Garfield, my daughter in college has a similar issue but she has
the XP Pro 2002 cd's that came with her Dell. Can she use those cd's of XP
Pro 2002 to install on her new Vista Toshiba Computer. That Dell computer
sunk with our boat in the caribbean, but she has the cd's back at the
university.
Unfortunately, the license for an OEM (preinstalled) version of Office
is tied to the computer that the software came with. When the original
computer croaks (or drowns), so does the OEM Office software license.
That's one of the reasons why OEM software costs less than retail
software.
