Hi Bader,

Assuming this is the first 2007 Office product you're installing, and you're installing on Windows XP, see if these steps help.

===========
1. Start=>Programs=>Accessories=>Disk Cleanup
clear your Internet files and temp files.

2. Locate your 2007 Office Professional Beta 2
download file and note the folder/path location.

3. Create a new folder on your PC and note that
folder/path location.

4. From Start=>Run use, on a single line type in
the following (using the path & file names from Step 2 & 3)
and leaving out the brackets

["drive:\Step2PathOfDownload]downloadfilename.exe" /extract:"<Step3path>"

If this succeeds, run setup from the 2007 Office copy in the new folder. (Be sure to backup your files and shutdown all other
running apps including antivirus software before starting 2007 Office setup)

If this doesn't succeed then the download may be damaged/corrupted.
Use Start=>Run and type
%temp%
and locate the Setup-xxxxx.log
(file) just created and see if it has any clues on where the extraction failed.

Post back with the results please.

I couldn't get the first step you mentioned to work (the extract). I looked
for the setup log file and it didn't even write one. I have plenty of space

Bob, what you mentioned below did not work (no setup log file was even
created), but a redownload of the installation package fixed the problem.

Hi Bob

Tried what you said and used

P:\Office2007\Office2007.EXE /extract:D:\Office2007

and got exactly the same result.

C:\>%temp%
'C:\DOCUME~1\toremf\LOKALE~1\Temp' is not recognized as an internal or
external
command,
operable program or batch file.

didn't work either.

Hi Martin,

1. In your example is P:\ a mapped drive or a physical hard drive?

2. Your download is named Office2007.exe and the extract completed successfully, i.e. you can double click on Setup.exe in your
D:\Ofice2007 folder?

3. You typed just %temp% in Start=>Run and you're logged in as Administrator and you're on Windows XP with at least SP2?

Hi Bob

1. P: is a mapped drive on the server. D: is the second harddisk in the
system.
2. It didn't extract successfully and there was nothing in the D:\Ofice2007
folder
3. The versien is Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] with SP2
and the %temp% = C:\DOCUME~1\toremf\LOKALE~1\Temp
is empty.

What now?

Hi again

Took a new machine and installed Win XP SP2 with all updates, cleaned out
all temp files and tried again. Same sad result. Nothing worked.

This is not a beta version. This is an installation program from MS that
doesn't work. MS shouldn't publish program with such a low quality like this
one.

Hi Martin,

So this is no longer using the server and mapped drives when you try to do the extract, as you posted in your other message?

If the extraction then failed (and there's no extra spaces or missing quotes in your command line) and you're not running another
beta product on that computer then it sounds like the download itself may be corrupted.

Hi Peter,

I allso found that error. But my boss was able to find out that if you
extract the files in the EXE to a directory annd then browse to that
directory, you should be able to link it that way. We are still
testing this, but it is at least a step forward. There is also a
windows exractor file within thhe proww directory.

We are still testing it and perhaps you can, too, and share your
results.

To extract the file, use the following comand:

"c:\downloads\OPPLUS-EN.EXE" /extract:"C:\Off2007ProB2CD1"

this assumes that you have the EXE in "C:\downloads" and there exists
an empty directory called "C:\Off2007ProB2CD1". You may have different
directory names, of course.

Hi BOB

Did as you said. Download the whole gaboh once more onto the harddisk.
Worked ;-)

Copied onto a CD and put on a server share, installed.
Worked ;-))

Thanks for you help.

I have the exact same issue on two different machines. I have downloaded the
file twice with the same result.

To recap:
1) downloaded file
2) double-clicked on exe file
3) Answered Yes to the first prompt
4) Setup starting extracting file and midway stopped and said the
installation failed.
5) There is no log file

Plus, I have tried the command line below, but it failed to extract too!

Hi Peter,

What Windows version are you using?

Are all other apps/utilities/antivirus etc shutdown when you start Setup?

Did you follow each of the steps from the previous message in order or start with the extract step?

What is the version of MSIExec.exe on your PC?

Was there an error message when you extracted to new, empty folder on your hard drive? If so, what was it. Generally, if it
doesn't extract with the sequence then the download may be corrupted, even with more than one download.

Just for grins, I downloaded it for a 3rd time and guess what, it worked.
Must have been corrupted the first two times.
