installation issue

I upgraded to Office 97 from a previous version. I have a
licensed copy but it is an upgrade version. I have thrown
away my copy of office 95 (or whatever version it was). My
problem is this: I had to reformat my hard drive and when
I try to reinstall office, it tells me that it does not
find a previous version so it cannot upgrade. I know full
well that the 'upgrade' is an entire new version so it has
all the files it needs. Am I SOL or is there a way to
install it. TIA.

Not without a qualifying upgrade product: setup needs to see evidence that
you have such a product. It doesn't need to be installed, you only need to
show it the installation disk or CD. Without that, you will be unable to
install the upgrade.
