installation of office standard 2002

I am unable to install my Office Standard 2002 on my laptop that I purchased
in March, 2006. The message says the product key is invalid. I copied it
from the product key on the package with the installation, content and
tutorial CDs came.
Please help.

Did you purchase Office off the shelf or was it pre-installed on your
computer?

Do you get the message after installation or immediately after you enter the
product key?

Also check what you are entering for typos, such as 5 for S, 0 for O.
Sometimes characters look similar.
