Installation Question

Bill

I have a desktop running XP. I purchased a copy of Office 2003 awhile back
and it is currently installed on the desktop. I just purchased a laptop. I
would like to be able to use Office 2003 on it instead of the desktop.
However, when I tried to install I was told I could not activate it as only
one activation is allowed. At the time I did this the Office 2003 was still
on the desktop. My question is if I remove it from the desktop would I than
be allowed to activate it for use on my laptop? I would prefer to use it on
the laptop as I got both the Office 2003 and the laptop to be used for
school. However, I do not want to remove it from the desktop just to find I
still cannot activate it for use on the laptop and than not be able to put it
back on the desktop.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

I forgot to mention the laptop is running Vista in case this makes a
difference. I own both computers and they are networked together. However I
may have registered the desktop during the initial setup to a different name.
If that is the problem can I fix that now?

Hi Bill,

If you start Word 2003 and go to Help=>About Microsoft Word, if the product ID shows 'OEM' as part of the ID then you purchased a
copy of Office intended for use only preinstalled on new PCs. OEM copies are tied to the machine where they're first activated and
aren't transferrable or able to be used on multiple PCs.

Retail Office 2003 copies allow installation for the same owner on one desktop and one portable PC.
