Could you try to disable all Norton and McAfee tools that might be running,
and try again?

Hi Susan

Have disabled my virus checker/scanner and windows firewall, still no change
to the message received and files will not open. This was a clean upgrade.
Purchased from Microsoft (home use program) Professional Edition 2003.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks
Ron

Give this article a try:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;835404

Basically, all it says is that you should check for updated signature files
for the virus checker, which has probably integrated itself into Microsoft
Office. Were you able to disable any integration with Office from your
McAfee control panel? That's usually an optional component in your virus
checker / scanner. When using Norton, you can disable the Office plugin and
that often resolves the error.

I suspect that messing around with the Office / AV integration will resolve
it for you.
