Installing EWS with Office 2004 + Entourage 2008

Our office has a bit of a wonky setup MS Office set up: we have a
volume license of Office 2004 which we use for Word, Excel and PPT.
And for email we use a standalone version of Entourage 2008 (12.2.3)
which is offered by hosted Exchange provider. We would like to upgrade
to Entourage Web Services Edition but the EWS installer gives the
error "A version of the software required to install this update was
not found on this volume." I'm assuming that's because EWS wants the
full version of Office 2008 installed rather than simply the
standalone Entourage 2008. Anyone have any ideas on how to work around
this? Thanks in advance!

Dear Diane,

Thank you so much for your response. Unfortunately we do not own 2008 Home
and Student edition, just Office 2004 Professional and the standalone version
of Entourage 2008. We are currently holding off on upgrading to 2008 because
of our need for visual basic and the semi-impending release of Office 2010.

If you (or anyone else) has any other thoughts they'd be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

You should be able to install. You first must update Entourage 2008 to
12.2.1 or higher. Not sure what the host provided you.

You can have both Office 2004 and Office 2008 installed at the same time.

Have you tried installing the Web Services Edition prior to Office 2004?

In a blog post of mine, I mention the presence of a file that the EWS
installer checks before allowing you to install. You might be able to
fake out the installer by putting the file in place. Have a look here:

Hope this helps!
