I've discovered that Office and student 2007 has a 3 user license. If i
format my computer and have to install the program again, is that going to
use 1 of the 3 leaving me with only 1 more after the initial install and the
one after the format? Thanks for any help

No, the license is good for use on 3 machines (in one household, for non
commercial use, etc. etc.). Reinstalling it on the same machine doesn't
count as an extra one (even reinstalling it on a new machine might not,
although at some point you may have to activate by phone and explain why
you're installing on the 4th or 5th different bit of hardware).

However 'formatting you computer' is a pretty dumb thing to do (yeah, I
know it's the first thing help desk folks tell you to try - that's just
to get rid of you for 4 hours) - 99.9% of problems can be fixed less
drastically.
