Installing Microsoft Office 97 on Windows 2000 Professional

R

Rick Romanowski

I installed MS Office 97 on a PC with Windows 2000
Professional SP4. The install was no problem, but when I
attempt to start any MS Office application I get the
following error:

The application must be installed to run. Please run Setup
from the location where you originally installed.

I unistalled and reinstalled but no luck.

Can MS Office 97 run on Windows 2000?

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I got it to run fine.

But I must note that I no longer use Office 97 as I installed Office 2003.

You might want to try setting up Compatibility Mode for Windows 2000 and
then enabling it on each individual Shortcut to an Office 97 Application.

To setup Compatibility Mode for Windows 2000, take a look at the following
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:
279792 - How To Enable Application Compatibility-Mode Technology in Windows
2000 SP2 and SP3
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;279792

If that fails to work, go out and purchase Office 2000, Office XP, or Office
2003.
