Installing Microsoft Office Doc. Imaging

H

Helen

Hi,

I promise, I read as many postings as I could but did not find an answer to
this: the installation of MODI as susggested (Control Panel, Add or Remoe
Programs, etc.) is impossible to do on my computer because MS Office 2003
does not show the Add or Remove Features (and I don't have administrative
rights).

Is there a work-around? I miss my MODI....

Thanks!

Bob,

Maybe you can tell me why I had succeeded in the first place, without having
to go through the Add and Remove Programs feature?

I have no idea what permissions you may have had in the past, how your
computer is configured, or who installed the Office suite in the first
place. Provided installs are/were allowed on the PC you could have
installed using Office setup and making the appropriate choices at that
time. Otherwise the question is somewhat like asking you to tell me how
much money is currently in my wallet! ;-)

Hello again Bob,

Well, I deserve the funny reply since I was not too generous with the
details! Okay, since I absolutely do need to install MODI again (I'm serious
when I say I miss it so), I was kind of hoping to find a way to reinstall it
myself since I'm a member of a very large corporation and to get to talk to
the administrator is like next to impossible. Someone suggested I do the
following:

Click start, run and enter this:

cscript c:\windows\system32\prnmngr.vbs -a -p "Microsoft Office Document
Image Writer" -m "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer Driver" -r
"Microsoft Document Imaging Writer Port:"

It does install the printer driver but that's it, nothing happens
afterwards. The Print dialog box pops up, I choose the MODI printer and the
dialog box closes. That's it.

As to what rights or permissions I have, how shall I put it? I can turn
on/off my computer. When I first installed MODI, I selected c:\program
files\common\shared files, etc.

If you feel you can help me, good! If not, well I thank you for "listening"!

If this is a large corporation, you will need to contact the helpdesk
and have them take care of it. IF this is a remotely managed PC, which
is frequently the case, then futzing around with the PC and trying to do
an end around the security, will be one of those items that can find you
job hunting.

Bob,

Since I love my job, I'll be nice and honest, and contact the powers-that-be.

Thanks again!

You're welcome, in addition, maybe they can figure out how they allowed
you to inadvertently remove it from a locked down workstation, and fix
that so it won't happen again.
