Installing Office 12 error - says I have it already?

C

Chris J. Popp

Hi there.

I've got Office 12 Beta 2 which I am trying to install now that I am
running the Vista 5536 build that went public earlier this week.

The problem I am having is when I start the setup, I get a dialog box
that says

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s):
- Office 12 does not support upgrading from a prerelease version of
Office 12.
Please uninstall any prerelease version of Office 12.
Correct the issue(s) listed about ve re-run setup.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I removed my Office 2003 installation and got the same error. Then I
read a post via a search in Google that recommended the removal of the
Office registry area. Did that, rebooted and tried again.

Same error.

I removed the Microsoft Office directory under Program Files and tried
again.Still can't install.

Has anyone seen this issue? Any help is appreciated and will help out
others I am sure.

Thanks,
Chris J. Popp

You need to uninstall Office 2007 (Office 12) not Office 2003. Use the
Add/Remove programs option in Control Panel. If it does not show up, then
download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and remove all
references to Office 11 and 12 in that utility.

Then try again.
