Installing Office 2003 Pro over broken Office 2000 Pro

Howdy;

I have an existing installation of Office 2000 Professional which was
broken by my Windows XP upgrade installation--the Microsoft Installer
data for Office 2000 was clobbered by the XP installation so the
Office 2000 In/Re/De/Un-installer will not allow itself to run.

Now I have a copy of Office 2003 Profesional sitting here on my desk
and I would like to install it.

Can I safely run the O-2003 installation, or do I need to dynamite
(how?) the O-2000 installation first?

Thanx,
Ken Leonard

The Office 2003 installation will offer to uninstall the previous version of
Office but you may want to try this yourself prior to installing Office
2003. If your Office 2003 is an upgrade, leaving the previous install may
be easier than uninstalling first.

Hi!

The Office 2003 Pro is a full set, not an upgrade.

I have a lot of things set up in Office 2000 Pro: Office Toolbar,
multiple e-mail accounts in Outlook, a herd of Outlook folders,
customized Word templates, and who knows what else. If I uninstall
Office 2000 Pro, I'm guaranteed to lose a lot of those and likely to
lose all of them.

Microsoft asserted that the Win98 to WinXP upgrade would not break any
MS products already installed--and then it proceeded to severely break
quite a number of things.

I'm very concerned that the Office 2003 Pro installer will get hung-up
on the broken installation-footprint data from Office 2000 Pro.

Whenever you uninstall Office, it does not touch your files that you
created, including Outlook .pst files and other files.

You can go ahead and install Office 2003 and see what it does to the
previous installation but I would make a backup of my important files first.
