Hi Skyace,

What version and build of Windows are you using?

See if the steps here help. While the machine is new it can also mean that there's a number of 'trial' software products on there
that can do odd things :)

===========
1. Use Start=>Programs=>Accessories=>Disk Cleanup
clear your Internet files and temp files.

2. Locate your 2007 Office Professional Beta 2
download file and note the folder/path location.

3. Create a new folder on your PC and note that
folder/path location.

4. Use Start=>Run , and on a single line type in
the following (using the path & file names from Step 2 & 3)
and leaving out the brackets

"drive:\Step2PathOfDownload\downloadfilename.exe" /extract:"Step3path"

example: (assuming you saved to a 'downloads' folder and created a new folder named Off2007ProB2CD1) the Start=>Run line would look
like this

"c:\downloads\OPPLUS-EN.EXE" /extract:"C:\Off2007ProB2CD1"

If the extraction is successful (you'll get a dialog box telling you it was after a few minutes) then

a. Backup your files and shutdown all other running apps and utilities including antivirus.
b. Run setup from your new 2007 Office system folder you
created in the previous steps

Else, if the extraction doesn't succeed then the download may be damaged/corrupted.
Use Start=>Run and type
%temp%
and locate the Setup-xxxxx.log
(file) just created and see if it has any clues on where the extraction failed.

Post back here with your results please.

Hi Randy,

The log you listed appears to be from running setup after an extraction (Extraction is steps 1-4)?

Generally, if the extraction in step 4 to an empty folder failed after doing the preliminary steps 1-3 in sequence of clearing old
temporary files then the download itself is probably damaged.

What step were you on?

If step 4 was successful there may be some 'lost' keys in the registry from a prior install/attempt.

Hi Bob--

I've been carrying on this discussion in different posts for a couple of
weeks now I think! :)

To answer your question below, I successfully extracted the files then ran
Setup from the extracted files folder. Setup failed after entering the
Product Key with an almost immediate 'send error report to MS' dialog.

I'm sure I have 'lost' keys in the registry from a previous install attempt
as I did everything in the book to clean my system of all remnants of
OFFICE12 so I could do a clean install from a freshly downloaded copy.
However, please note that after I originally uninstalled Office 2007, I
downloaded a new copy and tried reinstallation direct from the download but
it failed as well. This was well before I started my machinations in trying
to rid myself of the previous install of Office 2007.

I believe the answer lies in MS building in a very poor uninstall routine to
this beta version of Office 2007.

Thanks.
