Subject: Installing Office 97 on a clean Windows XP
Computer
I have a HP Pavilion 7855, which came new with Windows
ME. I recently upgraded to Windows XP Home Edition with
marginal success. Finally, I decided to do a clean
install of Windows XP, which I did, and that went well. I
now have a bare computer except that I have added all the
Windows updates from the Windows WEB site. All of that
seems to work OK.
My problem is - after the installation of Office 97
Standard Edition (which seemed to complete successfully) I
cannot open any applications. When I attempt to open Word
(for example) I get a Microsoft Office dialogue box that
states "This application must be installed to run. Please
run set up from the location where you originally
installed the application, with just an OK box to click."
Does anyone know how I can resolve my problem? I have
attempted several installs with exactly the same results.
Other application seem to install OK, but I have removed
everything now and have just the naked operating system
until I resolve the MS Office problem.
Thank you and best regards,
Richard Wheeler
