Installing Office 97 on a new XP machine

J

Joe

The pc I recently purchased (HP Pavilion, AMD Athlon 64
Processor 3200+) came with a 60-day trial of Office 2003
which is about to expire.

I'm not able to purchase the activation right now and I
do have an Office 97 (Professional Edition
w/certification) disk from a pc I used to have which no
longer exists.

I tried to install the Office 97 on my new pc when I
first got it to update my resume & stuff but ran into
problems with it running - hang-ups, freezes, etc., so I
freaked out, uninstalled it and reluctantly started using
the 60-day Trial version that came preloaded.

Can anyone layout the steps I can take to successfully
install Office 97 and have it function properly under
Windows XP Home Edition (Service Pack 2)?

Thanks,

Joe

I got it to run fine on Windows 2000 Professional.

But I must note that I no longer use Office 97 as I installed Office 2003.

You might want to try enabling Compatibility Mode for each individual Office
97 Application on your Windows XP computer.

To enable Compatibility Mode for any application/program on Windows XP, take
a look at the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Articles:

How to use the Program Compatibility Wizard in Windows XP

If that fails to work, I'd recommend that you go out and purchase Office
2000, Office XP, or Office 2003.
