Installing office over HTTP

We would like to setup an Office 2003 install via our SharePoint Portal
server. "Click here to install Office."

I have no idea where to begin. Any suggestions?

TIA.

Hi, darc_blarc,

I don't know much about SharePoint, but if you aren't already familiar with
the Office 2003 Resource Kit, it has a very detailed section on deployment.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011401921033.aspx

Office 2003 doesn't support http installation, however. Here's an excerpt:

"Specifying an installation point on a Web server"
"Office 2003 Setup does not support installing from an installation point on
a Web server. For security reasons, Microsoft no longer recommends
installing any Windows Installer package (MSI file), including Office
applications, from an HTTP source. For this reason, you cannot use the
/webinstall command-line option to specify an Office 2003 administrative
installation point on a Web server. However, you can still use a hyperlink
on a Web page to point to an administrative installation point that is
hosted on a file server (for example, a UNC path)."

Yup. Have played with the ORK and deployed via AD. One of the higher
ups wanted to integrate the install with SharePoint. Oh well...

Thank you very much.
