Installing Office XP 2002 Professional

Larry

When attempting to install Office XP 2002 Professional, I get the following
error: Error 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\IMAIL.
Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry or
Contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assistance. For
information about how to contact PSS...etc, etc.

I have never recieved an error of this kind before. The support site at
Microsoft is asking for a product ID #, but since it won't install properly,
I can't get to that information. Any idea why I would get such and error and
what the product ID # is for MS Office XP 2002 Professional?

Larry,

You don't mention if you checked your permissions, or if you searched the
Microsoft Support Knowledgebase and tried these articles:

You receive an error message when you install an Office program or open an
Office program or document:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;838687

You receive an "Error 1402. Could not open key: <key name>. System error
1009" error message when you turn on User Profiles in Office XP Setup on
Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302853

You receive an "Error 1402. Could not open key" error message when you run
Office 2000 Setup:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;236427

This is usually related to user profiles in Windows 98 or ME.
