This is what I do in this situation, but keep in mind that I do not know
this procedure is safe.
Since this sounds like a permissions problem, I start at the top level of
the key's hierarchy. In this case, I'm not sure what it is, HK Local
Machine? Right click and choose "Permissions." If it isn't set for
administrator's and everyone (if you're the only person using the
computer, is is true for me), then I check those boxes. Then to the next
lower. If this is the problem, you could avoid doing the hierachy and just
choose the lowest level and change the Permissions there. I try to make
the correction at the highest level because I assume that the Permissions
problem is broader than the one key, and I can avoid similar problems in
the future by making the broader change. Again, I have no authority for
this assumption. Backup your registry first and preferably also have a
complete backup of your disk, preferably a disk image (imho).
