Installing Outlook 2001

M

Maurita Weber

I am trying to install Outlook 2001 and when it looks like
the install is finished I get the following Error Message

Microsoft Outlook cannot write information needed to
complete installation.

Would anyone know what to do to get the install to work
without getting this error message?

Hi Maurita!

Outlook 2001 will install the following items:

1) Outlook 2001 folder (probably located in your Applications (Mac OS 9)
folder).
2) Alias to Outlook Settings into your Control Panels.

Try trashing these and doing the install again. If you have an Exchange
folder in your System Folder, you can trash this as well.

Hope this helps! bill

Incidentally, I'm having the same problem after installing on a brand new
system I received today. Outlook 2001 was the first piece of 3rd-party
software I installed.

I tried throwing away the Outlook 2001 folder and deleted the Outlook
Settings alias in the control panels folder, emptied trash, and
"reinstalled", but no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ian

Hi Ian!

A brand new machine? What'd ya get? d:)

The only thing I can think of that may cause you problems is that you might
be trying to install Outlook in Classic mode in Mac OS X. Maybe your
Applications (Mac OS 9) and/or System Folder have parts set to read only.

Will this new system boot into Mac OS 9 to install? Just a thought.

Hope this helps! bill

Hi Bill,

Brand new Dual 2.0 G5 with Cinema display. I'm not sure if Outlook is
having problems because of the drool or not =)

I've actually recursively set permissions on both the old OS 9 System and
Applications folders to allow read/write access from everybody. I've done
the same with the old OS 9 Desktop.

I'd wanted to boot into OS 9 to try installing that way, but unfortunately
it looks like this new machine won't do it.

I'm not sure what else to try!

Thanks,
Ian
