Installing Publisher 2000 or 2002 to Vista

I have tried to install Pub. 2000 and Pub 2002 on Vista Home Premium without
success.
The install hangs after the correct authentication product codes are
entered. The computer says installing, but nothing happens. I then need to
use control alt delete to end the install and restart the notebook. This new
notebook came with Vista preinstalled.

I've tried the compatibility mode and as an administrator. Still no success.

Any help installing this program on Vista would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Did you try Win98 compat mode? I have a family member who could not get a
game to install on Vista. Tried for weeks. Then he read in a newsgroup to
try Win98 compat mode. Worked like a charm ... this might not work for
Publisher but is worth a try ... vanilla

Publisher 2002 should install okay. I had all these programs on my computer
before installing Vista so I cannot be too sure. I do know you cannot re-install
95, 97 or 98. Vista does not recognize the Acme thing. Publisher's 2000, 02, 03
and of course 07 work okay. Publisher 2000 balks a lot but does work. I have it
in a compatibility mode.

Try safe mode installation. Maybe if the drivers aren't initialized Publisher
will install okay. Create a separate folder for each version and install to that
folder.

Hi David, I know about various versions of Office. I used a registry fix months
ago so Office 2003 and 2007 would be compatible. As I said in the earlier post
all my versions of Publisher were already installed before I installed Vista.
They all work to a point. On my WindowsXP computer everything works without
issue. I haven't installed Office 2007 on that computer nor will I ever.
I think Publisher is in a class all its own.

I would like to thank all of you for your responses!!!!!

I tried compatibility mode. My Vista does not give me any Windows98 or
other windows as a choice. In any case, it would not install either Pub.
2000 or 2002.

This brand new notebook already has Vista Home Premium installed. So I
can't install before Vista is installed.

I'll try Safe Mode installation tonight. Cross your fingers for me.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Mary--I agree, Publisher is in it's own league. That's why I'm so desperate
to install it on my new notebook.
