Hello all.

I keep getting installation errors installing visio 2003 on windows xp pro sp2
with administrator rights.
I have tried kb838687 to no avail. I am including the error message that
pops up:

Error 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Interface\{000D0212-0000-
0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid. Verify that you have sufficient
permissions to access the registry or contact your Information Technology
department for assistance.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi phil

Just a thought. Has the machine that you are using got the right permissions
and rites set for you, for example if you are using XP PRo and are logging on
and you dont have administrative rights it wont let you install software.

Yes. My logon has administrator rights, as well as the user of the pc. We
are able to install all office software, but visio 2003 (separate installion
cd). The other thing I forgot to mention is that it is running windows xp
tablet edition.

I'm having the same problem and was wondering if there has been any
resolution here. I'm moving from a laptop running Windows ME to a desktop
running XP Pro Media Edition. The laptop has Visio 2000 SR1 on it and
running OK (I have the CDs for old Visio 5.0 SR C but must have downloaded
the upgrade to Visio 2000 since I have no CDs for 2000). I have Visio 2003
Upgrade CD which, of course, won't load on desktop without some indication of
a qualifying (2000 SR1 qualifies) Visio product on board. I can't load 2003
Upgrade on laptop since it won't run on XP. I've used relocator software to
transfer 2000 SR1 from laptop to desktop and attempted to load the upgrade
and I run into the registry permission do-loop. I create the permission
scheme for "everyone" according to KB 838687 until I run into an error
message in "unknown" key about CLSID and there is no "retry" just "OK" and
clicking "OK" reverses the installation process. I seem to have a genuine MS
Upgrade CD and a qualifying product to upgrade from but it isn't working.
Any thoughts from the experts out there???

Thanks!
Bill
