Intellimouse wheel button - double click functionality

I've assigned a double click to my wheel mouse and I've noticed that with
Office 2007 you have to first select a file to open (click on it) before the
double click feature works. If you double click on a file the normal way it
works fine, but using the wheel button it's almost like you have to activate
the window before it works, then while you're in there it works normally,
whether you're drilling down thru folders or back up again, it's fine until
you open a file. Anybody know of a fix for this? I frequently use Excel and
Word and haven't tried this on other suites.

I've have this experience with Office 2003 as well. Annoying, and I've not
seen any resolution.
I use Logitech mice, so it appears not to be a mouse/driver problem.

And the double-click via wheel works fine in every other application I can
recal.
