i need to get excel to open in simply accouting 2006 by sage so i can do a

This does not sound like an Excel problem. It sounds like you are using a
third-party program, in this case, called Simpy Accounting 2006. And you are
trying to get it to open an Excel file. Is this correct?
If so, I would try contacting the company who makes the Simply Accounting
program to see what file types it can open. Looks like you can reach them via
