internet activity upon closing ms word

I get a flurry of internet activity by simply closing an ms word
document....I don't like this....what is microsoft doing anyway?....how do I
turn this off???

let me describe it better...I open a doc from a windows explorer
window....even for a small document (less than 1 page) when I click the close
(X) box, the hourglass cursor stays in place (meaning I can't do anything in
that windows explorer window)...what's going on?...I look at my wireless
network connection icon in the system tray, and I see data is going back and
forth on my internet connection...I am not accessing the internet anywhere I
know of from my computer, so I suspect it is ms word accessing "something"
via the internet...what is microsoft accessing?...why?...and how can I turn
this nuisance off?

thanx

I have a wireless modem...the ms office/ms word is on my pc, not a network
copy...this setup is all in my home and no one else was doing anything on the
other 2 computers

can we cut to the chase?...do you know if ms office/ms word does some type
of internet access when I open/close/work on my documents?...if so, why does
it do that?...and if so, how can I turn it off?

thanx,
Hal Kelley

No, it doesn't (at least not on my system).

Try shutting off your wireless modem and see what happens.

I have network activity, but I'm on a network. Look in tools, options,
general, buttons at the bottom.
I hope I'm not...do you know where that's configured?...do you have internet
activity when closing an ms word doc?

Why do you hope you're not using Online Help? It contains updated
information that you don't get when using Offline. It shouldn't be
creating any internet activity - I don't see any on my end, but here's
an article on how you can control how you access Help offline and
online:

"Tame Office 2003 Online Help Content!"
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=480

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
