Internet Explorer - Hosed

About 2 weeks ago my computer was not performing up to par, so I updated my
virus definitions (Norton) and performed the full system scan. No viruses
were discovered. However, that same day I ran a full system scan with
Ad-Aware se and discovered spyware on my computer (280 files) and finally
removed them all. After removing all the spyware files, my internet
connection to my ISP no longer works. The error "Page Can Not Be Displayed"
comes up and explains all the stuff about setting up a LAN connection, blah
blah blah. I was on the phone with my ISP for 1.5 hours performing their
diagnosis, and the final verdict was "It's a problem with Internet Explorer.
SO... I downloaded the latest service pack of IE 6 SP1 and attempted to load
the file, but my computer comes up and says I already have a later version of
explorer loaded on my computer and won't let me install the file. Please help
diagnose what's wrong with my explorer.
