&I am an end user and i have been trying to get my e-mail account
synchronised(received/sent) on the Microsoft Outlook...

Now, the e-mail account i am trying to set up is a co.uk account and
therefore i need to get the relevant info (POP & SMTP)...

I have e-mailed the company (note : it is a charity/free account) and ended
up nowhere...
Is there another way i can get the information??

Try the obvious ones like mail.(whatever) or pop.(whatever).
Try Googling for the domain name with pop3.
Maybe try saying what the domain name actually is and, y'know, we could
supplant your research.

Do they have a web site? How did you sign up for your account?

Dear "F. H. Muffman,

Thank you for your reply...

the company finally replied (see below)...
However, it looks to me that they provided the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
and not the POP details...

Any other advice...of how to reach my goal??

REPLY:
MagicTaxi incoming mail server (pop3) details are as follows:
mail.magictaxi.co.uk
We do not supply an outgoing mail server (SMTP).

Crazy. How can a mail provider supply service that is inbound only and
expect to stay in business?

Since you don't have an SMTP server, why not create a free gmail account and
use that SMTP server? You can certainly keep your existing POP service if
you don't wish to change email addresses, or you can switch to gmail for
both inbound and outbound service.

Guess what? They're lying to you. There is an SMTP server running on
mail.magictaxi.co.uk. I can connect to it. It's listening on the standard
port 25. If I were in your shoes, I'd try setting up your account to use
mail.magictaxi.co.uk as the SMTP server, port 25 as the port, and enable
authentication to the outgoing server, specifying that the incoming
credentials should be used, and see what happens.

George,
MagicTaxi's reply states that Do Not Provide an Outgoing (SMTP) server in
their service. So you would have to use their webmail interface, to send
mail from the account. Or use another ISP/Mail service SMTP server to send
mail from Outlook.

The Incoming (POP) Mail server is:
mail.magictaxi.co.uk

"REPLY

And yet, funny thing, there is an SMTP server listening on port 25.

Probably because that's where the MX record for magictaxi.co.uk points for
inbound mail?

Uhhh, why did you look up the MX record for *smtp.magicmail.co.uk*?

a) It was magictaxi.co.uk.
b) You don't lookup the MX record for the server, you look up the MX record
for the domain, which, in this case, would be magictaxi.co.uk.

C:\>nslookup

Again, you don't look for an MX record for smtp.magictaxi.co.uk, unless you
plan on mailing [email protected]. Try looking up magictaxi.co.uk,
and I think you'll see that the primary (and only) MX record for the *domain*
is the *server* smtp.magictaxi.co.uk.

I don't think that's the point, though. The OP said can receive magictaxi
mail but they can't send mail via a magictaxi SMTP server and I still don't
see why that would be true when magictaxi cleary HAS an SMTP server, despite
what they claim, since I can connect to it.

It might not be the point, but it is still a valid correction on how to properly
look for MX records.

You've never seen an SMTP server that only accepts inbound messages, messages
for the domain which the server is responsible for? It isn't that uncommon.
In fact, that sort of lock down prevents spam.

Certainly.

But we don't know whether or not this is the case here because, even though
I've siggested it several times now, the OP hasn't TRIED it to see if it
would work.
