invalid character setting

When I insert a field containing the formula 'sum above' the cell containing
that formula gives back !Invalid chracter setting. This also happens when I
copy a properly working table in a word document from another computer. I am
using Office 2003. How can this be helped

Are you using '=Sum(Above)' or '=Sum above'? If the latter then you
need to include the parenthesis around 'Above'.

Additionally, Sum(Above) is not always reliable. It is recommend you
use the cell addresses instead. For example: =Sum(A1:A5).

The Sum function will not calculate correctly if you have empty cells
in the range to be calculated. Word will sum up to the first empty
cell it finds.

Note although the article is for Word 2000 it is applicable for Word
6 - Word 2003.
