Invisible pictures pasted into WORD doc

I have Windows XP. All of a sudden I can't see the photos I've pasted in WORD
docs unless I click on PRINT PREVIEW. All that I see when I right click on
the space are the little black squares in the corners and along the
perimeter. Sometimes I can get the EDIT PICTURE enabled when I go to the
PICTURE TOOLBAR, but most often it is in gray and doesn't work. Even when I
can access and edit the picture, when I go back to the document, it
disappears. Since this is a fairly recent development, It seems that I might
have somehow inadvertantly selected some PREFERENCE or EDIT feature that has
caused the picture to hide. I recall that in my PICTUREIT software, there is
a place where I can BRING FORWARD/ BACK pictures pasted into anotherpicture,
but I can't find that command anywhere in WORD.

In Tools > Options > View, check the box for Drawing Objects and uncheck the box
for Picture Placeholders.

Bonjour,

Thank you so much, Jay!!! That was soooooo easy! If you have any clout
with the WORD folks, I suggest that you let them know that the path to fixing
picture errors might begin with something sensible like Pictures > View >
Place holders ONLY - no picture.

I'm impressed with your knowledge of the system, and would like you to ask
for an raise....you may use me as a reference :)

I have my settings "set" as you describe, but I still can't see the files I
brought in. They are screen captures of a web site.

What do I do next?

tnx

Is it just those particular pictures that give you trouble, or all pictures? In
one document or all documents?

We have the same problem here after installing IE7 (7.0.5730.11).
We are on XP ver. 2002 SP2
Office 2003 SP2

If I right click on an embedded imaged inside an email and select copy (copy
from preview pane or after opening the email), and paste it into a Word
document, all I can see is the black frame. (No red X). If I do a Paste
Special and select "Paste as DiB" the image shows correctly. For our IT
department this is not an acceptable solution.

I have build a test machine using the same Base PC image but changed the
Office version with Office 2007 and the problem does not occur with that
particular setup.

Using Word as a mail editor solve the issue, but only if you click forward
email and then copy the image from that new email.

Of course rolling back to IE6 also solves the problem.

Any thought on this anyone?
