iPhoto 4.0.1 and Entourage 2004 problems

Rich Tate

I am running iPhoto 4.0.1 4E4 and I just installed Office 2004 a few days
ago. I just noticed today when I try to email pictures directly from iPhoto
using Ent 04 that it doesn't work. We've tried this on a couple of computers
and on two different users on my Powerbook G4. I have a TiBook G4,
867mhz running 10.3.4. I used the combo updated downloaded from Apple
and not the software updater to get to this Mac OS version. When I select
any number of photos at any resolution with the titles and comments turned
on or off and try to send them to Entourage, the message is a complete
mess. This function works just fine in Mail and AOL. I have enclosed the
source file of one of the messages. Here is what happens:

iPhoto compiles the message and sends it to Entourage 04. When it opens
in Entourage things are a mess. For starters, the attachments are very odd.
They are all title Attachment (PlayerPro document).669 and are show to be
0.0K. The subject builds correctly but no images are attached. I have no
idea what a PlayerPro document and neither does Entourage. The message
is unusable and when sent nothing shows up. The images are properly
embedded in Mail and AOL. The other odd thing we notice here is that the
Entourage icon that appears in iPhoto is not the "new" icon from Office
2004. It's the old icon. We've deleted plists and worked with virgin iPhoto
libraries and new Entourage users and nothing changes that. We went into
mail and changed the default mail reader and still the icon in iPhoto is
wrong. I don't know if that means much but it is suspicious. Also, I've
completely removed my old install of Office X. The correct version of
Entourage loads when you build photos to email in iPhoto but the message
is garbage. I've also enclosed a screenshot of a message for you to see.

Anyone else come across this one yet?

Thanks everyone!

Thanks,
Rich Tate

Another user on an Apple discussion board is now having the same problem
on a Powerbook. Anyone here having issues?

No, it worked fine for me here. I'm not sending as HTML mail, perhaps that
will make a difference?

Cheers,

Chris

Previously, I had said " No problems here", but have found out that the
released version has this bug and MS is looking into it now. Sorry that I
offered incorrect advice.

Looks like there is a confirmed bug. Hope for an update soon.

I have a very similar issue related to attachments. I'm using Paul
Berkowitz's script "Attach vCard X 1.1.1".

After upgrading to Office 2004 it suddenly started to attach an empty Player
Pro document named "Attachment" instead of my vCard.

I fiddled around a little with Pauls's script and found that if I changed

"set theVcard to alias pathName" into

"set theVcard to pathName", it worked.

The alias thing to the file containing the vCard messes up somehow. I'm
almost prepared to bet that this is the same bug in Entourage that gives a
problem with iPhoto.

This is a comment from Dave Cortright [MS] on the issue:
"We're aware of the problem and we're looking into it."
