How can I create a 5 sided, irregular shape in Visio?

Use the Line Tool on the Drawing toolbar, Draw each line segment in turn and make the last
segment join up with the first.
When finished change back to the normal pointer tool, select the whole shape and hover
over it with the mouse, all the vertices will appear as small green diamonds, you can then
edit the shape as required.
When finished use menu Shape -> Operations -. Join to join up all the segments, you can
show that this has succeeded by doing a fill and it will work!

Use either the line or pencil tools. If you want the shape to be "fillable"
make sure you draw it as one continuous line with beginning and ending points
connecting. Actually, you can use the other tools if you want curved sides
or even squiggily sides.

You can also "tweak" existing shapes such as the Pentagon in the Basic Shapes
stencil. Use the pencil tool to move the vertices. This would give you your
five sided irregular shape and you won't have to worry about whether
everything stays connected when using the drawing tools.
