Is "duration - (actual duration)" ever not equal to "remaining duration"?

Duration - (actual duration) = remaining duration

Will this statement ever be false?

The formula that Microsoft Project uses to calculation Remaining Duration
is:

Remaining Duration = Duration - Actual Duration

You will find this documented in the Help information on the Remaining
Duration field. I'm curious to know why you are asking this. Is this a
trick question, or are you seeing a situation where you believe the above
formula is false? Let us know.

No, I was hoping that there was some representation in the PDS data
that would tell me when a task has been completed ahead of schedule.
Instead, I think this data can only be indicated by comparison to the
baseline, which is not available in the PDS data. So unless I write a
PDS extender, I guess I'm up the proverbial creek.
