Is it possible to stack or layer documents?

Will Microsoft Word assign layers or stack designated portions of a document?
For instance, I would like to create a study guide complete with lecture
notes and answers to questions on one document but have the option to print
only the guide or guide plus notes/answers. Perhaps there is another way but
since I work a bit in photoshop, layering graphics got me thinking that I
would like to do the same in documents.

There are some 'awkward' workarounds, perhaps, but Word does not support
layering. If you work in Photoshop, perhaps you have availability of
InDesign, as well... Excellent for what you propose.
