is it possible to stop Word icon f/displayin multi times on task bar

Is it possible to stop the Word icon from showing on the task bar ... if I
open multiple documents in Word 2000, each document shows a W on the task
bar. In excel, I only see one E even though I may have numerous
spreadsheets open.

When I open a Word 2000 (or higher) document, it creates a new instance of
