Is it possible to turn off reminders as a default option?

When making appointments, the reminder option is on by default.

Is there a way to make the reminder default "off" unless I select it for a
specific appointment?

Don't see tools, options general. This is Outlook 2003

Under options there are calendar options, and no where in there is a way to
turn off the reminder.
