Is it possible to turn off WYSISWG in Word?

Despite advances in screen technology, it is still difficult to read serif
fonts on screen as the dpi of screens is still too low to display the fonts
with a high enough resoltion.

Is it possible to turn off WYSISWG in Word? In this way it would be easier
to work with large documents for long periods of time using e.g. sans serif
fonts for display, and then switching to a complete WYSISUG display for final
edit and style / font application as required.

That's not my experience. Zoom in to Text width.

Yes, this is possible in recent versions of Word. Switch to Normal view and
enable "Draft font" on the View tab of Tools | Options. You can choose the
font you prefer.

Another suggestion: Switch to Normal view, and in Tools > Options >
View check the box for Draft Font. In older versions, IIRC, that gives
you a butt-ugly sans serif system font; the newer versions let you
pick any font that's installed on your system. Switching to Page
Layout view gets you WYSIWYG or what passes for it.
