Is it worth it?

I've been considering switching to Outlook (2000) from OE for my email,
primarily due to the fact that OE can't share a mail folder across a
network, and I'm told Outlook can. I have several machines at home, and
would like at least two of them to share a common email folder, not open at
the same time of course.

So I installed Outlook on one of the machines and imported (supposedly) the
address book, mail, and filters from OE on that machine. However, the
filters don't work, and the messages which were nicely separated into
folders, all went into the inbox.

So I made a new folder for a group I subscribe to, and would make a fresh
new filter, that should work. But instead of the nice 'local folders" that
I see in the left panel in OE, with all my custom folders displayed and
easily accessible with a click, this new folder isn't there; just the inbox
etc., and I have to go down to 'my shortcuts' to find the new folder. 8^(
Great, so I click to get my mail, then I have to click all over to find it.

OK, so maybe I'll use the 'Outlook Today' instead, and see if I can have it
show all the folders I want...not as good, but possibly tolerable. Except
when I go to OT and click the 'customize outlook today' link, nothing
happens. Zilch.

Not only that, but nowhere in the 'Tools" or options or anywhere I look,
does there seem to be a place for me to tell it where I want my email stored
(like in the same folder that Outlook on the other machine uses). If it's
there, it's certainly well hidden, nothing like the simple 'store folder' in
OE.

The contacts imported nicely, but for email addresses, I'm only shown the
person's name; I have to finagle through a bunch of un-intuitive clicks to
see what the actual address I'm sending to is. I don't see any option to
change that. 8^(

This is bringing back memories of why I abandoned Outlook with about the '98
version...it seems extremely un-intuitive, offers all sorts of options I
don't want, and lacks the ones I do want. Suggestions welcome, otherwise I
guess I search for a nice, simple email client that will share its message
folder across a network. I realize part of this is due to me being an
inexperienced user of Outlook, but I usually figure my way around pretty
easily; I'm beginning to understand why I've heard it called LookOut! at
times.

Thanks for any suggestions on the above, including another email client.

I'm living vicariously through your email. I did the
same thing at about the same time ... around Windows 98.
Stick with OE6.0. Especially when looking at your
Address Book. It's so nice seeing name, email, company,
etc. Why can't Outlook do this...?

In Contacts go to View-Current View-Detailed Address Card. Shows Name, Email
Address, Company, Category etc etc.
