Hi, I have Mathtype 5.2 installed -- it was useful with Office2003 as math
editor enhancement wrt the one provided by Office.
Is it still needed, or its functionalities are embedded into Office 2007 ?

Hi Luca,

While the new MS Equation Editor in Word 2007 has a lot of nice features it isn't in its current form a complete implementation of
all of the features in http://mathtype.com and we have no way of know ing from your post what features you may need in your work :)
You may want to check with the folks at MathType and/or try both to see what best suits your needs.

Bob Matthews from Design Sciences (Mathtype is there product) sometimes answers specifics on the various equation creation products
for MS Word in the Word newsgroup below if not here.

Luca, as Bob mentioned, the equation tool in Word 2007 does not provid
all the functionality of MathType. MathType 6, which will be release
soon, not only retains all the features you enjoy with Word 2003 an
MathType 5.2, but it adds additional functionality to Office 2007. Fo
example, Word 2007 does not provide a means to number the equations an
reference them in the document. MathType 6 provides equation numberin
and referencing support for both Word 2007 equations and MathTyp
equations.

If you're trying to decide between MathType and the new equation too
in Word 2007, there's no need to make such a choice. MathType wil
continue to support equations created with Equation Editor or MathTyp
in earlier versions of Office, and will greatly enhance you
equation-writing experience in Office 2007.
