is MSP suitable for me?

Alex

My small engineering company has many jobs going at once and we are
constantly swapping between jobs, doing certain tasks and then swapping back.

There is some degree of pre-planning but I usually do what I need to do when
I can and then swap to another job and do a little bit on that.

Is MSP suitable for my company or should I aim to be more organised and
handle one job at a time?

Regards,
Alex

IMHO MS Project could certainly help you out. Of course, you are only going
to get out of the program what effort you put into it.

Taking the time to detail plan your efforts will assist you in developement
of more credible work estimates, allow you to compare your estimates ot your
actuals, and force you to think things through from end to end.

Might I also suggest some reading on Project Management, perhaps visit
www.pmi.org and see what they have in the book store.

If you make a disciplined effort to quantitatively monitor and plan your
work, I think you will find it to prove quite successful. If you tend to
"fly by the seat of your pants" and let the project schedule maintenance go
then you will not get the value of your investment. Project allows you to
plan your work and see the quantifiable impacts of schedule slips, extra
work, and other detail.... but only if you take the time to actually use it.
