Looks like there are issues with Outlook. MS MVP Milly says Outloo
will ask for password.

Outlook 2002 has an issue where you will need to provide your credentials each time you open Outlook as its protected storage provider key cannot exist with Windows Vista. This is the only issue I have heard of that would be a potential show stopper. Besides, Office XP is in extended support which means that only critical security items will be patched. Office 2003 and 2007 are fully supported on Windows Vista.

Hi, as a User of Outlook 2002 recently having installed Vista OS I concur
with Mille on the issue of having to repeat credentials each time. However, I
have a more serious issue whereby Outlook continuously crashes (in an
APPCrash) or hangs (AppHang), the error message states Outlook cannot
interface with Windows, and I cannot restart Outlook without re-booting the
entire system. Have you heard of this ? Is it a compatibility issue with
Vista ?

Thanks, Tom.

If you use Detect and Repair in Outlook help menu, does the error go away? Windows Vista was not extensively tested with Office XP since it went out of mainstream support almost a year ago.

Tried Detect and Repair and may have made it a little more stable but Outlook
still crashed on 3 occasions yesterday.

Your user experience is likely to not improve without a fully supported version of Office on Windows Vista.

Microsoft claims that it has not tested office xp fully with vista -
upgrade (or go to Linux)

office xp thus in my expereience may refuse to be activated after
install.

It may activate successfully after a few tries, maybe when the moon
(German Mond) is red.

BUT, eventually you are lost as vista refuses to boot if you apply
critical office updates to xp and you revert to last known good
configuration, which may be missing some hardware drivers ----

Office XP is out of mainstream support everywhere, not just Penn State. This is old news.

watch auto update - recently it updates (good) custom drivers wit
(dysfunctional) microsoft ones - with great results - e.g. pc does no
boot if it replaces the disk driver -

on vista default setting is to do this in the background automaticall
