Is Office 97 compatible with Windows xp?

I recently upgraded my operating system from Windows 98 to Windows xp. At
first my Office 97 programs seemed to work, but then one day when I needed
them most, Outlook, Word, & Excel would not work. However Powerpoint and
Access did. Can anyone explain this?

Did you install any updates to Office 97 as you should have?

Although it's a good idea to make sure your installation of Office is
fully updated, I'm betting they won't resolve the issue you are
currently encountering. Now, I'm also betting you'll eventually
encounter some issues fix in the updates so updating Office 97 is in
your best interest. :)

However for your issue at hand, what 'won't work' exactly?? Do they
not start? Do they crash when you try to start them? Do you encounter
an error message? If so what is it?

By "won't work" I mean I get the following message when I try to open the
program to use it: "This application must be installed to run. Please run
Setup from the location where you originally installed the application."

Those two downloads didn't help :-( I still get the following messages when
trying to open Outlook and Excel: This application must be installed to run.
Please run Setup from the location where you originally installed the
application. And when trying to open Word: when I double click on the
shortcut icon, absolutely nothing happens!

The message is very helpful. I thought something like this may be what
you are encountering.

When you installed Windows XP it also created user profiles. Each user
can have their own setup which includes installed programs. What you
need to do is install Office 97 for the current user and make sure the
current user isn't using a limited user account.
