Is One Note hard to use?

C

Cueless

I would like to buy One Note, but a friend told me it is very hard to learn
to use. Is this true? Awkward and clumsy were the words she used to describe
it.

Aloha Cueless,

Well, one man's hard to use is another's easy as pie. (however easy pie is)

I find OneNote to be pretty easy to use, but I guess I should considering
I'm a OneNote MVP. If you try to keep in mind the spiral notebook metaphor
you will probably find it pretty easy.

Are you going to use it on a Tablet? Desktop? Laptop? What sorts of things
do you think you might use it for?

Q; is OneNote easy to use ?
A: it really depends on what you want to use it for ?

OneNote is an odd application that is really only for taking the odd
note here and there. It's best feature is that it handles ink and
typing in the same note, relatively easily.

I think OneNote is quite easy to use. But that it's usefulness is
questionable.

What are you hoping to accomplish with OneNote ?

Interesting. We use it for far more than that.

My wife and her staff of 5 singing teachers use it on a LAN in a private
teaching environment to take notes during student lessons for 8 hours a day,
every day of the week.

They also use it to collate and share song ideas (note flags are useful
here) between rooms and store student background info (which all teachers
can easily refer to).

It's truly revolutionised that aspect of her business - which used to be
handwritten sheets of paper filed in a folder which was cumbersome, slow and
not very portable (and sometimes illegible!).

Excellent, Brenda. It really is very good. If you view it a second time,
after trying some of the things offered, you'll even discover more.

Aloha All,
Two requests:
1. Brenda, did you mean (or could you) post the location of the webinar you
thought was valuable? Is it a free resource?
2. John, others, do you know sites where use of OneNote in elementary
education is discussed? I want to read detailed case studies if they exist.
John, your post about use in the teaching of singing points to the benefits I
hope for but I want to fast-track my trial-and-error phase.

I have a very short summer (three to four weeks) to get ready with a whole
new OneNote/Outlook management arrangement on a new Tablet... and I have to
scan in so much "stuff"... Yikes!

Jonathan,

We've put together a complete application built upon OneNote for teachers.
It is developed for K-12, but the templates and forms are more appropriate
for K-6. It is a student /classroom management solution, in which you can
easily add your own commonly used daily forms. Please feel free to visit our
website in my sig for additional information.

Contact me via email if you need additional information or a demo. The free
demo, OneNote Toolkit Sample, includes some sample templates, student
assignment, lesson plan and behavior journal and is available from our
website.

Hope this helps,

Fritz

Aloha EMRhelp.org,

Says you. :) We're using it extensively and constantly throughout our
company. We find it VERY useful, to say the least.

I think it's probably safer to say that the hardest thing in learning
how
to use OneNote is figuring out how to make it work for you.

Or, to put it another way, when I first got OneNote, I understood
generally
what it does. Getting into the habit of using it to collect notes,
etc.
in a useful manner is taking much longer.

Of course, I'm hoping that ON07 will help in making it a more useful
tool.
(*ahem* When's the rumored public beta going to be, anyway? :) )

Yes, that's true. And then learning some of the nuances and little tricks
that really make it sing.
Of course, I'm hoping that ON07 will help in making it a more useful
tool.

Oh, it IS. You'll be very pleased.
(*ahem* When's the rumored public beta going to be, anyway? :) )

Ummm...say, how 'bout them Dodgers? ;-)

I would have to disagree with you, I have found it to be a **HUGELY** useful
application for taking notes, recording snippets of information etc. etc. It
is a **VERY** flexible application due to the types of data you can store in
a OneNote NoteBook.

 Don't argue with the troll. He's been posting here since OneNote came
out, mostly negative items or promoting other programs.
