Is Outlook 2007 compatible with Office XP Professional 2002?

I'm having all kinds of problems with Outlook 2002. I installed it on a new
machine with Vista. The error message says I need to update so I bought
Outlook 2007 but I can't get it to install or operate.

I would also like to know if Outlook 2007 is compatible with Office XP
Professional 2002. Assuming you uninstall Outlook 2002 first, is it
compatible? Can one buy the stand alone Outlook 2007 and have it work well
with other older office programs?

Outlook never works well with other versions of Office. All integration
features are lost. If you don't use any integration, you can usually get a
new version of Outlook to work on its own, but only if you fastidiously
remove the previous version and create a brand new Outlook profile from
scratch.

It will work if you uninstall the old version and reboot first - but you'll
have a better experience if you upgrade. We don’t know what issues word and
excel may have with vista - upgrading to 2007 suite will give you a version
of office that should be supported for the next 3 yrs. Upgrading to only
outlook leaves you with an old version of office that is long out of support
and you may end up upgrading the suite in a yr or two anyway.
